About Mrs. Kasi Roden
The 2023-2024 school year will mark my 19th year teaching, all of which have been at Moulton Elementary. I have taught first, second, and fourth grades. I am a lifelong resident of Lawrence County. I graduated from East Lawrence High School in 2000 and attended Calhoun Community College during my senior year of high school. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of North Alabama in 2004, a master's degree in elementary education from the University of West Alabama in 2011, and an educational specialist degree in elementary education from the University of North Alabama in 2022. I am highly qualified to teach all subjects in grades kindergarten through sixth. I was honored to be selected as Moulton Elementary School's teacher of the year several years ago.
My favorite subject to teach is math, and I love incorporating technology as much as possible. I enjoy helping students learn (or continue) to love reading, which is why we will read lots of great books in second grade. I also look for ways to make learning fun. I enjoy seeing students work hard to learn something new and watching them reach their full potential.
I work very hard (and expect my students to do the same) to develop a classroom family. Families are not always all best friends; all family members do not excel at the same exact skills or tasks; and families usually have to learn how to work through some things together. That is all okay and expected. However, it is important that we all learn how to treat each other with kindness and respect. I always work hard to teach students everything they need to learn in second grade, but my ultimate goal is that each student learns to be a better person while he/she is a part of our class. The reason I became a teacher is still my goal every day--to be a positive influence in the lives of kids.
I hope students come home from school a little tired and challenged from working so hard, excited about something they did or learned, happy to come back the next day, and confident in themselves about something. I truly love teaching!!
My students always want to know some things about me when I was a second grader. As a second grader, reading was my favorite subject. I also took dance classes and competed in dance competitions. I did not try sports until I was a little older. I was a good student, but I also loved to talk. I was the student who talked no matter who my teacher made me sit beside or who she partnered with me. I also loved being helpful at school. When I was older, I played softball, volleyball, and basketball.
My husband and I have two children--a son who is a high school freshman and a daughter who is in fourth grade. I enjoy doing anything when our family is spending time together--especially being outdoors and supporting our kids in the various activities they enjoy. Our son currently runs his own business, and our daughter is involved in community theater. As an adult, I have taken dance classes, chaired a local scholarship program, played co-ed volleyball, coached volleyball, taught dance classes, and most recently been our VBS director and have assisted behind the scenes with some community theater productions. I also enjoy geocaching, board/card games, reading, and escape rooms!
